Neuropathy involves an array of disorders, which occur when the nervous system experiences damage. Many refer to this condition as peripheral neuropathy, and it tends to be a result of damage to nerve axons. Neuropathy tends to cause pain and numbness in the hands and feet. It can be the result of traumatic injuries, infections, metabolic conditions, and exposure to toxins. One of the most widespread causes of neuropathy is diabetes.
Roughly 30% of neuropathy cases are considered idiopathic, which means they are of unknown cause. Another 30% of neuropathies are due to diabetes. About 50% of people with diabetes develop some neuropathy. The remaining cases called acquired neuropathies, have several possible causes, including trauma, nutritional deficiency, alcoholism, autoimmune diseases, poison exposure, and inherited disorders.
The symptoms of peripheral neuropathy differ based on the type you have and what part of the body is affected. Symptoms can vary from tingling in a specific body part to more severe ones like burning pain or paralysis. Other symptoms include, muscle weakness, cramps, muscle spasms, numbness in body parts, sleep disruptions, loss of balance, and loss of bladder control.<< /p>

I came in at 4 months pregnant with sciatica pain back in 2024. I saw Dr. D consistently thought out my pregnancy and it made a significant difference. After pregnancy, I came back with an emergency flare up and could not walk. I was in extreme pain. After one visit, I was immediately relieved. I am so thankful that Smith Family Chiropractor found me! If any woman out there is dealing with hormonal/menstrual cycle issues, please give Dr. Smith a try. You can always do surgery later. Also, my husband said Dr. Smith is not like other chiropractor. He's more hands on and he can do X-ray. He also do sports related injury too. I know because I can run again. Here's my experience. Dr. Smith and his wife along with Matt came to my workplace to do a talk. Whatever, I only signed up for the class because we can get points towards getting a discount for our insurance next year and lunch was provided. What can they tell me that I don't already know. Besides, I have my family doctor and specialist for other health issues that I might have. If my doctors can't find anything wrong with me or fix my issues, What can Dr. Smith do for me? Issues such as: migraine, really bad cramps that something require ER visit ( you got to love being a woman ), minor tingling sensation down my right leg, little numbness on my right cheek and the latest one, stiffness in my back. My range of motion was not as it used to be. My doctor and specialist said, it's just part of getting older and they couldn't find anything wrong with me. They did blood test, MRI scan and everything looks fine. They said if I'm in pain to take some prescription medication and all should be fine. If it's really bad, I can consider surgery for some issues. Dr. Smith talked about taking care of yourself and eating healthy and he spoke about taking care of your spine and how your spine send messages to all other parts of your body. I knew a lot of the stuff he was saying but not the spine part. What the heck, he seems to know what he's talking about, I'll just check it out and see if he can do something about this stiff back of mine. After consultation, my husband and I decided that I should give Dr. Smith a try and if I don't see any improvement, I'll stop going. My husband believes in chiropractor, so I figured whatever. I'll try it out. Well, just after two months of seeing Dr. Smith, ( 3 times a week) , my range of motion was just OK, small improvement, but I noticed that my cramps was not as bad. Hum... I must be having a good month ( so I thought to myself ). I'll keep an eye on it. As each month passes I noticed any issues related to my menstrual cycle ( tension headaches, migraine, bad cramps ) all improved. The tingling sensation down my leg is improving too. My face does not feel numbness anymore. I also noticed that my sensitivity to light and smell had also improved. I cannot believe it, so I told no one for awhile. I had to make sure it's not just a glitch or something that last just few months only. I even tested the light issue by going outside on a sunny day WITHOUT my sunglasses. I did NOT need my sunglasses. It did not trigger my migraine. My coworker , can now wear their perfume and it doesn't bother me anymore. I have been seeing Dr. Smith for 8 months now. ( No, I did not see him 3 times a week for the 8 months , only the first 3 month. Now it's just 2 times a week and will be switching to 1 time a week soon ). I am happy to report that, I now have my full range of motion and my back is not stiff anymore. Other issues that I have, had now almost disappear. No tension headaches, no cramps like before. ( Just a pinch or slight discomfort if there is any) No sensitivity to light or smell. My face does not feel numbness and my right leg does not feel tingling. I am super happy and so thankful. I went in to fix one issue and came out with so much more. Who knew?
Dr. Smith's strategy for improvement of spinal health fits very well with my routine. With frequent timely visits he has managed to help retrain my back to a much healthier state, increasing blood flow between vertebrae, causing a healthy gap between the bones allowing for greater nerve health and flexibility. It's amazing how many seemingly-unrelated secondary symptoms can be improved simply when spinal health is improved. He explains his technique very well and is always happy to answer any questions. He also measures progress and hones his strategy with yearly X-rays. It's great to know that someone is on my side to help offer advice and prevent the affects of today's often-too-sedentary work lifestyle. I can't count how many times I have slept wrong or in inadequate conditions, or even stretched wrong, and with a quick email I'm able to come in within 48 hours for a rescue. None of the chronic stiffness or lack of ability to sleep has ever resurfaced since I started with Dr. Smith over 4 years ago. Thank you Dr. Smith!
